Game pass vs PS Plus: How Microsoft Xbox Game Pass compares with Sony PS Plus

Must read

Buying a gaming console has moved beyond just the games and pricing. Both Microsoft and Sony have already started moving towards the subscription-based online streaming model like OTT platforms for movies and TV shows that brings several benefits to the users on behalf of a fixed monthly or yearly fee. These benefits include access to the latest titles, free games and more.
Microsoft Xbox comes with Xbox Game Pass, while Sony PlayStation has its own PS Plus subscription-based service. Although both the services are meant for the same purpose, their execution is opposite. Let’s put them side-by-side and see which one offers more benefits and is better value-for-money.
Xbox Game Pass vs PS Plus: Pricing
Pricing is among the most important factors here and Xbox Game Pass certainly feels ahead of the PS Plus. The Game Pass service can be topped over the monthly Xbox Live Gold subscription by paying just Rs 489 per month for console and PC. The Xbox Game Pass Ultimate costs Rs 699 per month that also includes Xbox Gold Live membership and offers all the benefits of it to the users. The Ultimate Game Pass also works on PC.
Sony PS Plus subscription costs Rs 499 per month, Rs 1,199 for 3 months and a yearly subscription will cost Rs 2,999.
Monthly pricing for both the subscription services cost around Rs 500 and are neck-to-neck.

Xbox Game Pass vs PS Plus: Benefits
The argument over offering a better selection of games between the two consoles is a never-ending battle and perhaps almost impossible to answer. So, let’s say it depends upon the user. Xbox Game Pass and PS Benefits are totally different from each other, but both have their pros and cons.
The PS Plus subscription is more focused on offering quality benefits rather than quantity, while Xbox Game Pass focuses more on quantity. Sony offers two free premium titles for free every month to PS Plus subscribers and they can play the game as long as they have an active PS Plus membership. For example, this month Need for Speed Payback and Vampyr are the two free games for PS Plus subscribers. In addition to that, PS Plus subscription also offers online multiplayer gameplay.

Xbox Game Pass, on the other hand, offers access to over 100 high-quality console and PC games which players can play as much as they want. Microsoft-exclusive titles arrive on Game Pass the day of its launch and players can play the game without any additional cost. In addition to this, the entire collection gets shuffled time-to-time. Some popular titles include Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six, The Witcher 3, GTA V, Doom Eternal, Forza Motorsports, Batman Arkam Knight and more.
The major difference between the two services is the execution. PS Plus games get added to the users’ collection forever. While on Xbox, users can only play the game till the time it is a part of Game Pass collection. It is more likely that you might have to say goodbye to the title you love to play eventually.
Few things are common between both the subscriptions such as exclusive discounts on select games, add-ons, pre-orders and more. However, Xbox Game Pass has a slight edge here as it offers Xbox Live Gold subscription depending upon the tier. Starting November 10, the Game Pass Ultimate will also include EA Play subscription at no additional cost. This will give users access to hundreds of EA Game titles as well.
Xbox Game Pass vs PS Plus: Verdict
There’s no clear cut winner here as both services are very different when it comes to benefits, so everything depends upon the use case scenario. If you are someone who loves to build a huge library of quality games and love playing online multiplayer titles, PS Plus subscription is the one for you. However, if you love trying new titles especially from EA and Microsoft-exclusives then Xbox Game Pass makes more sense here. Xbox Game Pass also works for PCs running Windows 10 operating system and ever updating libraries and more extensive titles does give it a slight edge over PS Plus.
