Google Meet new update for free users

If you use Google Meet on a regular basis and wish to get access to unlimited group video calls, you will now need to upgrade to a paid account. Google Meet has updated its guidelines, which mention that free Gmail users will now be able to host a group call with three or more participants for only 60 minutes at a time. The guidelines were first spotted by 9to5Google website. Also Read – Google Workspace now available for everyone, including free Google account owners

“At 55 minutes, everyone gets a notification that the call is about to end. To extend the call, the host can upgrade their Google account. Otherwise, the call will end at 60 minutes,” the guidelines state. The guidelines further highlight that, the new change doesn’t affect Google Meet users who make one-on-one calls.

Beginning last year, Google announced that it will limit meeting times to 60 minutes stating September 2020. However, the tech giant later extended the deadline for unlimited free calls to March. The deadline is finally set to be June 30.

The Google Meet Help website suggests users to upgrade to a paid account if they wish to conduct unlimited group calls. The Google Workspace Individual tier comes at a price of $9.99, which roughly comes to around Rs 745 per month in the US.
