Vivo promises three years of Android OS upgrades to these smartphones

Must read

Vivo, the BBK-owned smartphone brand, has announced that its flagship X series smartphones will be eligible for major Android OS upgrades and security updates for three years.

This, however, will be applicable to “selected models launching after July 2021.” Therefore the current X-series models — Vivo X60 Pro+, Vivo X60 Pro, Vivo X60, Vivo X50, Vivo X50 Pro and Vivo X21 — that are available in India are not part of this commitment.

“The premium X series models that are not eligible will continue to receive regular Android security updates,” said Vivo.

The company also confirmed that policy covers the future handsets in the Indian, European and Australian markets.

OnePlus, another BBK-owned smartphone brand already offers 3 years of major security updates to smartphones in India.

After ignoring it for years, regular security updates have now increasingly become a parameter that smartphone brands have started giving importance to.

Just last month, South Korean technology brand LG also confirmed that it will provide future Android updates to its smartphones despite the exit.

The company confirmed that LG Velvet, LG Wing and G and V series from 2019 or later will get three Android updates from the year of their release. On the other hand, some 2020 models like LG Stylo and K series will receive two software updates.

Earlier this year, Samsung also announced that it will now offer four years of security updates on many of its Android devices, along with three years of major OS updates.
