Apple is set to host its WWDC — its annual developer conference from May 7. WWDC is the event where people get a glimpse of all the new software updates coming to Apple devices. Traditionally, Apple doesn’t launch any new devices at the event but is known to make an exception or two. Will it be the case this year as well? Here’s what all you can expect from Apple at WWDC 2021:
iOS 15: New software update for iPhones
Apple will unveil iOS 15 at the event but it is expected to roll out only sometime in September. The new software version generally comes with the new iPhones, which is mostly in September every year. iMessages may get a slew of new features and the notifications too could see a revamp with iOS 15.
iPadOS 15: New software features for iPad
With iPadOS 15, Apple is expected to give an overhaul to the home screen. Users may get the option of putting widgets anywhere on the screen. In April, Apple introduced the M1-powered iPad Pro, so we can expect a few features to take advantage of the powerful processor.
macOS: MacBook, iMac, Mac mini will get a software upgrade
Very little is known about what to expect from macOS this year. Rumour mill has been quiet about it and we might not see an overhaul to macOS in 2021.
watchOS 8: Health features for Apple Watch
Like macOS, rumour mill has been rather quiet about watchOS. But we can certainly expect a bunch of new health features that will arrive on the Apple Watch.
TVOS: Software upgrade for Apple TV
Little is known about what to expect from TVOS. We will have to wait till the keynote on June 7 to see what Apple has up its sleeve for the TVOS.
‘Mystery’ HomeOS: A brand new software from Apple
This is a sketchy rumour based on an Apple job listing — which the company removed later — but a new software platform for Apple TV and HomePod could be in works. It might be a bit early to announce but Apple could spring a surprise.
New MacBook Pro
Generally WWDC is all about software but in the past Apple has surprised a few people by launching a gadget or two. This year rumours suggest that it could be a 14-inch or a 16-inch MacBook Pro. Rumours suggest that the ports on MacBook could see a revamp and it could feature a new processor as well.
New Apple processor for Mac devices
Rumours suggest that Apple has been working on a new processor for Mac devices. Some leaks suggest it might be called M2 or M1X and could bring significant upgrades to the M1 processor, which was launched in November 2020.
